Las Cafeteras SXSW 2013 at Copa Bar & Grill

Las Cafeteras SXSW 2013 at Copa Bar & Grill

I know, it’s pretty late to be posting on SXSW given the amount of time that’s passed. I don’t care, Las Cafeteras is a great band.

I don’t remember how I met Hector Flores, but I do remember it was in Junior High at Muscatel Middle School. Hector has always been the greatest guy. I don’t believe I was ever greeted with anything but a smile in the 18 years that I’ve known him. Whoa! 18 years, I had to take a minute and count that on my fingers to make sure it was correct. 18 years, When did we get so old?

South by Southwest (SXSW) is a set of film, interactive, and music festivals and conferences that take place every spring (usually in March) in Austin, Texas, United States. It began in 1987, and has continued to grow in size every year. In 2011, the conference lasted for 10 days, with SXSW Interactive lasting for five, Music for six, and Film running concurrently for nine days. – Wikipedia

Last year during SWSW I was able to attend more events, this year I was only able to do Friday night. When I heard an old friend from my hometown was going to be in Austin, TX performing with his band Las Cafeteras. I was so in.  Trina and I headed downtown and caught Las Cafeteras Show at Copa Bar & Grill. I had a chance to chat with Hector and I discovered we hadn’t seen each other in 13 years. Except 13 years ago the roles were reversed, and I was on my way to Rock Stardom. Alright, not really but he was in the audience supporting me and my band. I had enough time to snap a quick picture with him before they Jumped on stage.

They were AWESOME! This is coming form a guy who’s seen quite a few latin artist perform from pop to regional genres. I’m not a wordsmith, but if I were I would talk about their stage presence and the dynamic this group shares in lots of fancy words. Instead, I’m going to stick with “they were sick” or “they were dope” or whatever the cool kids are saying these days to express confusion about their love of a band.
